Broan Takes Offensive Moves Against the Lying Cheating Ways of Its Competitors
While the Home Ventilation Institute is demonstrating a lack of courage verging on spinelessness, in its duty to police the exaggerated performance numbers used in North American by HVI non-members, Broan is moving forward with its own strategy to get the point across.  The photos below show the mini-lab Broan is using at the Builder and KBIS show.
November 2006 Update:  HVI has finally released procedures to police the entire industry

Short Hood with Big Attitude
New Broan Elite undercabinet hood lines pick up where the Broan Allure III leaves off, and then doubles it.  The Elite E661 features a 550CFM blower completely packaged within the hood's 5-1/8" height.  The E662 takes the same design and installs an 800CFM internal blower so large that 5-1/8" isn't quite enough.  When installing the hood, an 8"x24" cutout is required in the bottom of your cabinet to take up the additional height of the blower box.  There is also a E662E model for installation with remote or inline blowers from 280 to 1500CFM. Features 3-speed electronic capacitive touch control with (4) delay off options, halogen lighting, several theatrical light settings, heat sentry sensors, mesh filters and enclosed capture area.

New Air Curtain Under Cabinet Hood
The Nutone/Broan Allure under cabinet range hood launched at the 1999 KBIS, and started production this January 2000. The major feature is an air curtain system pulling up air in the back and blowing down filtered air in the front to capture and direct cooking vapors into the hood, 20% of the air is returned in ducted models, and 100% in non-ducted versions. The hood also features a teflon easy-clean capture area. 3 versions differ in CFM, controls, filters, and sound. All have halogen lighting, but bulbs are not included. Does the air curtain work? It worked at the 99 show, but it could hardly fail in their acrylic enclosed demonstration display. We hope it works, it's a neat idea. They aren't giving it away at around $400 retail. http://www.broan.com/nutone/
