2004 Kitchen & Bath Show Introductions
Samsung enters the North American major appliance market with a batch of
generic and dated styles. One wonders, is Samsung supplying Maytag, or is
Maytag supplying Samsung?
Uninspiring New Ranges
THIS is what they are launching to enter the 30" range market? Not as
inspired as Sharp, not as sleek as Bosch, it is as if they have been holding
Amana engineers hostage. The line features dual fuel gas and electric
models. The gas tops sport 7.2K to 12K BTU burners, while the electric
tops feature 1200W-2700W elements. Both units feature 4.0 cu ft
self-cleaning oven with 3000W broil and 2600W bake elements. One would
have to get past the generic ugliness of the unit to know how well it
cooks. It is due to be available sometime in 2005, but we say that Samsung
should not work so hard, take some holiday, we'll be fine without this.

More Than A Microwave
Following Whirlpool's playbook for the g2Microven, Samsung is offering a
950W OTR microwave with various types of radiant elements, convection, and
ventilation. The press kit and website are so short on specifications and
information we would only be guessing about any of it. MSRP $700.

2003 Kitchen & Bath Show Introductions
Toast and Bake Microwave Oven
Samsung calls this a 3 in 1 kitchen appliance since it toasts, bakes and
microwaves all in the same ceramic lined cavity. Can it brown and
microwave at the same time? Now that would be something but nothing on
website or press kit indicates that there's enough juice in a 110V line to
power-up 2 features at once. Designed with a cute swing down door.

The Bimbo Fridge, Bringing Cute and Stupid into 1 Appliance
Samsung's new $8000 side by side refrigerator features a Windows CE tablet
computer with docking station and internet connection which provides docked or wireless TV and internet
functions. Features connection options to VCR and DVD, message
function, phone book, looks like a built in camera and lots of other
stuff. Why would anyone want to merge these 2 functions into a
refrigerator? Why would you spend $8000 for Windows CE? Why not go
out and buy a real flat screen computer, that plays DVDs and does all the
rest? Go ahead, you have our permission to be sane.

Built-in Side by Side Concept Fridge
Samsung is transmitting its intentions of cutting out large pieces of the high
end fridge business with this prototype built-in fridge. The prototype
seemed targeted at heavy drinkers featuring both an ice and water dispenser
and a drink access mini-door for when finding the main door becomes too
difficult.

2002 Kitchen & Bath Show Introductions
Samsung Launches a Full Size Refrigerator Line
Samsung enters the full size refrigerator market with some smart looking units
featuring a single compressor / double evaporator system.
The bottom-mount models (18.5 and 20.3 cu ft) come with drink
dispenser, digital temperature controls, 3 freezer drawers, high
humidity veggie bin, spill proof tempered glass shelves, 2 litter bottle
storage, and twist ice cube maker. Some units feature an unplumbed
built-in closed-door drink dispenser with manual refill tank. Amana should be taking notes.
The side by sides models (24 to 27 cu ft) feature digital controls and displays, tall glass water and ice dispenser,
and an optional bar with an easy access door (ie a tiny
door to access your hooch). Available Qtr 4th, 2002.
We believe that Samsung will make more than a ripple in the market.

Samsung Launches a Network Refrigerator
As this is Samsung's first year with a full size refrigerator, they obviously
don't know the rules. We will wait until next year before we let them know
our feelings about, the waste of engineering talent, the
boondoggle, the money pit, the solution looking for a problem, known as the
internet connected appliance.
Microwave with a LCD Tiny Touch Screen
The LCD could provide some cooking assistance, but this is a microwave, and
there aren't that many things a microwave can do. It can also display
television but I can't guess who, with this much money, would want to watch the 4" screen.
