2004 Kitchen & Bath Show Introductions
It's More Like Puffing the Pillow Than It's Like Changing the Sheets
Several small adjustments to professional ranges and cooktops.
Slight improvements to the 'star' burner system, a lighter grate for easier
handling, a machine washable griddle plate, and accessory blue knobs for people
who live the blue lifestyle........... not that there's anything wrong with that.

They're Called Line Extensions
A new Thermador oven line. OK perhaps not a new oven, it would be more
precise to say a repackaging of the existing S-oven to create more options.
Repackaging 1: Ovens packaged with a microwave.
Repackaging 2: Ovens packaged with a microwave and warming drawer.
Unlike simply stacking separate units, the result of this repackaging is that
the oven controls are always at the very tippity top of the combined unit.

New Hoods Replace Old Hoods
Thermador introduces 3 new models of sub-pro range hoods.

Return to Fridges
Thermador has returned to refrigeration with 18 built-in models in 36, 42, and
48 widths which we believe to be sourced from Whirlpool's LaVergne, Tennessee
factory. The 18 configurations include side by side, bottom mounts,
internal and external ice making as well as 3 external handle and door styles to
match all of Thermador's lines. These refrigerators feature
stainless fronts, adjustable tempered glass shelves, roller bearings on drawers,
various other fridgey things, and a noise level of 35 - 37 db, which Thermador
claims to be the quietest on the market.

2002 Kitchen & Bath Show Introductions
The Thermador folks have been busy little beavers this past year.
All New Pro Ranges
In the past the Thermador dual fuel pro ranges were the premium products, and
the all gas pro units were the ugly stepchildren, lacking many of the features
of the dual fuel units. Thermador has finally concluded that selling a
de-featured $6000 all gas range is sort of silly. Thermador is therefore
launching (3) separate lines of product: Full featured, premium level
"Dual Fuel" and "All Gas" ranges AND a sort of economy
"Classic All-Gas" line based on the old pro series and without any of
the franchise technologies. We think that this last line will wither and
die since rich folks aren't known to compromise.
The premium lines feature bigger bolder thicker doors with curves, larger higher ovens to
compete with Viking, 45% larger oven windows, a deeper overall depth of
32", tighter tolerances all around, and perhaps most noticeably a large
retro-analog temperature gauge which perversely has the words "electronic control"
printed on it. The two premium lines will also feature::
-Stainless steel maintop replacing porcelain for a sleeker
design, fewer
crud cracks, but a likelihood that scrubbing will cause scratches.
-15K BTU star-shaped sealed burners, for better heat
distribution, though not matching open burner performance.
-2 surface burners with Thermador's cycling simmer system
-Single point burner ignition which only sparks the burner
being ignited. Thermador claims that this feature will reduce noise
by 85%.
-Griddle with dishwashable, metal utensil survivable,
titanium surface. The old uncleanable bolted down cast iron griddles rusted if not
oiled.
-Grills with radiant metal baffle heating system instead of the ceramic
briquettes instead of lava rocks instead of charcoal instead of raw.
-The "All Gas" line will also feature dual infrared
broilers with 17K BTU,
and self-cleaning ovens.
-The "Classic
Gas" line will feature the Xlo simmer system on 2 burners, a 14.5K BTU infrared
broiler, very chunky grates, but are not available with self-cleaning
ovens.
-Dual fuel units have a hidden bake element and a 3rd element
convection.
The new line will be available Fall 2002. Cooktops priced from $2000 to
$3300, Dual fuel ranges will price from $4500 to $9000 and All gas ranges from
$3600 to $6500.
Almost all of the changes seem positive and we like the styling, but these
premium units
are so large (29" deep excluding the oven handle compared to 24-1/4"
for Viking), that they may have trouble fitting in some kitchens....like my own.

Pro Cooktops
All will now feature the 15K BTU star burner with single point ignition, as well
as the other improvement to the Grill and Griddle discussed above.

All New Pro Hoods
The new hoods feature front located electronic push button controls with
programs, continuous welds, anodized aluminum baffle filters shifted to the back
wall for ease of removal, 12V halogen lighting, and 175W pressed glass infrared bulbs to
replace the flimsy 250W bulbs now falling out of favor. Can be installed
with either vertical or horizontal ducting. UL approved for indoor or damp
applications. 27" deep and available in widths of 30", 36",
42", 48", 54" widths and priced from $1300 to $1530 without the
blower. This is more proof that the Dynasty pro hood is ahead of its time.

All New 30", 36" and 45" Gas Cooktops

8K BTU
The 36" features (5) sealed star burners as with the 30" and (1) additional 15K BTU burner.
The 45" features (6) sealed star burners as with the 30" and (2)
additional 15K BTU burners.
These units also feature full surface grates with left and right curves, central
located controls, single spark ignition, the option of a cycling simmer system, and a

2001 Kitchen & Bath Show Introductions
Thermador did not attend KBIS, but information about new products was
provided to ApplianceAdvisor and is included here as a courtesy to you.
Last Evolutionary Step for Ceran Cooktops
Thermador launched new Ceran cooktops
with pot sizing and pot sensing technology and knobless electronic touch
controls. The cooktops also feature single, double and Thermador claims the
first triple element, plus each cooking area can be used as a warming zone
replacing an older Thermador system requiring a dedicated area for low heat
warming. 30", 36", and 45" widths. Available August 2001. MSRP
$840 - $1550.
Pro-Styled Dishwasher
Restyled Bosch dishwasher to match the
styling of Thermador pro-style cooking products.
Star Burner on all Gas Cooktops
The Star Burner is Thermador's answer to
a common problem of round sealed burners which force the flame away from the
center of the pot. Round sealed burners are just not as efficient to cook with
as open burners. Eliminating round burner and replacing them with the Star
Burner should go a long way towards gas cooking performance equality.

Redesign of Pro-Styled Appliances
Thermador restyled all of their Professional Series ranges and cooktops and
added additional features. What those features are, Thermador is not saying.
Available 4th Qtr 2001.
2000 Kitchen & Bath Show Introductions
Through two years of Bosch merger related reorganization, job changes and
losses, production transfers and other assorted convulsions, Thermador found the
time and mental focus to develop several new products.
Indoor 30" BBQ
Thermador launched its replacement for the CharGlo indoor BBQ canceled 3 years
ago, with all the styling cues of Thermador's pro ranges and cooktops. The
Advisor believes that the popular 12" BBQ modules most normally found on
the pro-style ranges of Thermador, Viking, Dynasty, DCS, etc. is 12" too
much for your cabinets, upholstery, and lungs. This 30" entry would be more
so. Grilling should be done outside, but otherwise this is a good looking piece.
(See Garland for more ranting and raving on this subject)
New Blower Options For Chimney Hoods
Thermador extends its line of 7 models of Euro-styled hoods with additional
blower options for 2 islands and 1 wall model. These three models of hoods will
now also be available without a blower, and compatible with Thermador's
separately purchased 600CFM, 1000CFM or 1400CFM remote blowers. Thermador will
now have an answer to those who want a Euro-look over their pro-styled ranges
and BBQ.
