Owner Customizable Rangehood
Padova Customizable Rangehood from Cheng Design. Its about time that
customization opportunities were designed into appliances, above and beyond the
hiding in plain site cabinet covers on dishwashers and fridges. The Padova
allows free artistic expression using tiles or glass or gravel. The hood
is itself fairly striking.

A Cleaning Disaster but Less So
The Om-mini is just that much easier to clean than the larger Om.....which, with
all that bloody glass directly facing the user and the cooking, is not saying
much.

Elica Collection of high priced rangehoods supplied by Elica. With
the takeover of Zephyr by Broan-Nutone in 2006, we guess that Zephyr will not
long have an Elica Collection.
2004 Kitchen & Bath Show Introductions
In 2004 Zephyr launched many products sourced from Asia and Italy, moving
the Zephyr brand to design leadership in ventilation.
Zephyr introduced the fruits of a joint venture with Cheng Design with models called
Shade, Trapeze, Okeanito. All featuring stainless 3 speed 650 CFM internal
blower with optional 1100 CFM remote blower, baffle filters, dual intensity
halogen lighting, and something called incandescent mood lighting.
Zephyr also launched a family of generic pro-style hoods named Tempest I and II,
with 5 speed 650 and 1100 CFM blower options, electronic controls, baffle filter,
halogen lighting, optional 250W IR warming lamps, and a sensor which adjusts
blower speed depending upon the difference between cooking heat and room
temperature.
Even as Zephyr has grown to become a powerhouse in kitchen ventilation, its
products remain uncertified by HVI for CFM performance. Many of the models
sold by Zephyr promise a CFM performance far above and far beyond anything
seemingly possible. Their competitors do not believe Zephyr's
claims. We find their claims highly doubtful. We recommend that Zephyr become HVI certified immediately to put
aside the doubts of competitors, dealers, consumers, and finally the press.

Imports Chimney Hoods From Italy
Zephyr started to import Euro-styled chimney hoods manufactured by Fox of Italy.
The line includes sexy styling of stainless steel, halogen lamps, 6 speed touch
controls. CFM performance is listed at 715 CFM which might even be close to a
Heating Ventilation Institute (HVI) certified number if they use a double blower
system. Zephyr is also including the brilliant mini-pyramid design that Fox
showed at Domotechnica called simply Pyramid. The Pyramid (in stainless, white
or black) is only 6-3/4" high and fits under a cabinet to be a quick
replacement for the ugly hood junk normally found in such places, giving a
kitchen lots of style without ripping out the cabinets. All models can be
installed ducted or ductless.
